A wedding is a public announcement of your commitment to God, to enter into his definition of marriage, (not yours).
His definition is what will govern and sustain the relationship beyond the altar. It is saying goodbye to your single life and entering into an inseparable union (covenant relationship) with another. It is a sacred ceremony where you publicly state what you are committing to, and with whom. Although there may be a lot of pomp and circumstance surrounding this ceremony, your focus should be on the words you speak and the commitment you are making in your heart. That is why you are at an altar.
This is Holy.
God is taking you at your word.
He is trusting you to keep your word, as he keeps his. He is expecting that you will need help at times, and he is ALL IN.
Never leaving or forsaking you.
Due to the sanctity of such a ceremony, the wedding is usually followed by a big celebration to commemorate the commitment. This is commonly called a “reception”, because it is when the couple is received into the celebration in their new “state”; as Husband and Wife; their first party with family and friends who are in support of their union. The couple offers refreshments, a meal, dessert, and gifts to their guests, as their way of saying thank you for witnessing and supporting our commitment.
